Bethany McLean full name Bethany McLean is a contributing editor to
Vanity Fair magazine known for her work on the Enron scandal.
Bethany McLean had been an editor at large and columnist for Fortune
magazine.
Bethany McLean is best known as the co-author, with Fortune colleague
Peter Elkind, of Enron - The Smartest Guys in the Room ISBN 1591840082,
exposing the corrupt business practices of Enron officials.
The book was the result of Bethany McLean 's reporting on Enron for the
magazine and she is widely acknowledged as being the first journalist
to question Enron's inflated stock price with her article in the March
5, 2001 issue of Fortune magazine entitled, Is Enron Overpriced?.
Bethany McLean 's book was later made into an Academy Award nominated
documentary.
HerBethany McLean 's column, The Bulldog, appeared regularly in Fortune
Magazine.
Bethany McLean joined Vanity Fair in 2008.
Bethany McLean grew up in Hibbing, Minnesota and received her BA in
English and mathematics at Williams College in 1992.
After college and prior to joining Fortune Bethany McLean worked as
an investment analyst on Wall Street for Goldman Sachs.
Bethany McLean has also made appearances on the The NewsHour with
Jim Lehrer, acting as an observer of the trials of Ken Lay and Jeffrey
Skilling.
Bethany McLean is writing a book wih Joe Nocera on the 2008 financial crisis.
Bethany McLean married Sean Berkowitz, a partner with Latham & Watkins,
in May 2008.
Berkowitz is the former Director of the Enron Task Force. Bethany McLean met
him through their mutual connection to that case.
